Dr. Donald K Wallace Endowment
There is a critical shortage of primary care for geriatric patients in the mid-Carolinas. To address this problem, a forward-thinking local physician established the Dr. Donald K. Wallace Endowment for Adult (Geriatric) Nurse Practitioners, an independent endowment administered through The Foundation of FirstHealth. Proceeds fund scholarships for nurses in the FirstHealth community who want to pursue a master's degree in nursing, with a focus on preparation for certification as a geriatric nurse practitioner. Recipients must practice in the mid-Carolinas region for at least two years.

In 2008, Dr. Wallace retired after spending more than 42 years with the Pinehurst Medical Clinic, the practice he helped establish in 1965 with the late Dr. Joseph Hiatt. During his distinguished career, Dr. Wallace specialized in internal medicine, gastroenterology and his first love, geriatrics. In preparing for retirement, he recognized the challenges of caring for an aging population.
Please join us in sustaining Dr. Wallace's vision of providing advanced training opportunities in geriatric nursing for nurses here at home.
