Physician Leadership Academy
We have entered a new age of integrated health care, stricter regulations, leaner budgets, higher accountability for outcomes and tighter requirements centered the patient experience. To thrive in this environment, physician and nurse leaders must shift away from the old models and embrace a radical shift in both thinking and administration in order to remain competitive. For this to happen, clinical leaders must be empowered with the tools and training to be effective leaders. Skills like collaboration, team management, team building, and leadership development must be developed and nurtured.
To meet these needs, The Foundation launched the Physician Leadership Academy on January 11, 2013. Seventeen physicians representing a variety of specialties made up the inaugural class.
The program is designed to develop leaders within the FirstHealth community, and attract top physicians to our area. Each participant is assigned an executive coach to help develop competencies and mentor them through the process. Local and national experts teach monthly classes featuring topics such as Communication, Leading Change, Executing Results and Financial Management.
The Physician Leadership Academy gives physicians and their teams the opportunity to thrive as innovators, collaborators, and partners with and throughout the FirstHealth system. In return, their expertise benefits our community by directly shaping our health care future.
Foundation philanthropists Walter and Betty Reid and Pinehurst Radiology Group have led the way in supporting and funding the program’s launch. Now we need your help to sustain its success and the growing pipeline of new physician leaders.
