A New Kind of Hospitality

Ed Madden details his health care journey and how Clara's House impacted him.

Watch

At Clara's House, we support the healing process in a caring environment where guests feel fully at home. Here, they can get away, relax, prepare and eat meals and get a good night's sleep so when their loved one needs them, they will be rested and ready to help. But Clara's House offers far more than hospitality. Our guests find good books and valuable information in the library. They enjoy the warmth and comfort of our homey kitchen.

And when guests need time alone, they can find solace in the Healing Garden, Reflection Room or Quiet Room. Volunteers and staff are always ready to lend a compassionate ear, and offer encouragement and understanding. Something else happens at Clara's House, something wonderful.

In this remarkable setting, many guests meet and talk with other guests. They begin sharing experiences and stories. Connecting with families and patients facing situations similar to their own, they draw strength from each other.

Clara's House also hosts a number of support groups monthly as a way to give back to our community.

Is there a charge for staying at Clara's?

The room fee for overnight guests is $35 per night for a single or double room. A $20 "Day Room" is an option if a guest needs to wait in privacy or to take a shower and rest but not spend the night.

What are the requirements for staying?

Guests who are over 18 must be family members or direct caregivers of an inpatient at Moore Regional, FirstHealth Hospice or actively receiving oncological treatment at FirstHealth. Guests must live at least 30 miles from Pinehurst and be referred by the patient’s physician or nurse. Guests must agree to abide by Clara’s House Rules. No children are allowed at this time. Surgical patients may stay the night before a procedure to ease the burden of early morning travel. If admitted, their guests/family members can continue to reside at Clara's. No discharged or post-operative patients are allowed.

Is financial need one of the requirements for a stay?

No. This is a common misperception. Clara’s House is for everyone 18 years and older who meet the requirements. If financial assistance is needed, it can be discussed with the House Manager.

What time is check-in?

Guests may check-in between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Exceptions can be made with prior arrangements. All adult guests must present a photo I.D. at check-in.

How many people can stay in each room?

Two people total. For example, the patient plus one allowed caregiver. Once the patient is admitted, a second family member or care partner can join the room but must be included on the reservation. We do not allow multiple family members to switch out.

What is provided in each room?

Each room features a private bathroom, one or two queen beds, pillows, sheets, towels, cable TV, phone and clock radio.

How long may I stay?

The maximum stay is 21 days if the guest continues to meet the criteria for lodging. Stays of more than 21 days may be approved on a case-by-case basis.

May I come and go as I want?

Yes. Guests must utilize the front door and can ring the doorbell for service. Guests are requested to make a special effort to honor our quiet hours between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.
