FirstHealth of the Carolinas is adding a new provider to its cancer care team in Pinehurst.
Megan Moore, DNP, AGNP-C, will serve patients on FirstHealth’s medical oncology and hematology team after previously working at FirstHealth Family Medicine – Rockingham.
Moore said she’s excited to care for patients at FirstHealth’s newly opened Cancer Center.
“My interest in hematology/oncology started when I was young, even before I attended college. I am a carrier of a rare bleeding disorder with an affected son, and like many others, cancer has personally affected many of my loved ones,” Moore said. “I avidly discuss the importance of cancer screenings along with routine lab work and follow-up with patients in primary care. Having the opportunity to care for patients at the Cancer Center gives me a fulfillment in treating, but most importantly, supporting patients and their families.”
Moore earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice – Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned her B.S. in nursing from Winston-Salem University.
Prior to working at FirstHealth Family Medicine – Rockingham, she worked as a nurse in the intermediate surgical stepdown unit at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Moore also has experience in behavioral health and urgent care nursing. Moore said her family inspired her to go into health care.
“I grew up surrounded by people in professions involved with helping others, including firefighters, police officers, nurses and teachers,” she said.
“I knew I was meant to help others and was attracted to nursing for the ability to not only learn about the disease process, diagnosis and treatment plan, but also the ability to offer patient education.”
In her spare time, Moore enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, crafting, riding motorcycles and gardening.
