Chasse Bailey-Dorton, M.D. specializes in integrative oncology and survivorship. Integrative oncology is a patient-centered, evidence-informed field of cancer care that utilizes mind and body practices, natural products and/or lifestyle modifications from different traditions alongside conventional cancer treatments.

Integrative oncology aims to optimize health, quality of life and clinical outcomes across the cancer care continuum and to empower people to prevent cancer and become active participants before, during and beyond cancer treatment. Research shows combining integrative oncology approaches with traditional treatment methods benefits both patients and caregivers with enhanced quality of life and improved clinical outcomes. Integrative oncology engages the mind and body while incorporating natural products and embracing lifestyle modifications.

Dr. Bailey-Dorton’s journey into integrative oncology was influenced by her own experience as a patient. “I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 39 and went through surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and endocrine therapy. I was drawn to this field first to help myself and, ultimately, to better help my patients,” she explained.

Dr. Bailey-Dorton earned her medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine, completed her family medicine residency at ECU Health Medical Center, and pursued advanced training in integrative medicine through a fellowship at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine in Tucson, Arizona.

Dr. Bailey-Dorton emphasized the importance of integrative oncology in modern cancer care. “Integrative oncology needs to become standard of care for our patients. Some studies have shown improved outcomes and certainly improved patient satisfaction,” she said.

Research in the field supports this approach, indicating that integrative methods combined with traditional treatments can significantly enhance patient experiences and outcomes.

This new program is unique for a community hospital, as Dr. Bailey-Dorton noted, “Most major cancer centers in the U.S. have integrative oncology and survivorship services available to their patients. Developing this program in a community hospital is groundbreaking and demonstrates the commitment to excellent patient care here in our community.”

I felt no hope before this visit. My mental state is much improved. Have ordered the suggested books and supplements. The 3 hour drive is well worth going to the facility. We are blessed to have such a center in NC. I am humbled by how well we were treated. Thank you so much, I have hope now.

I was late so that took away from timing. The Wellness Center is a good idea although I have been coming to the Cancer Center for over two years and this service wasn't offered to me. Alternative treatment is a great idea, support is key. I do want an oncology massage and Doc has referred me for acupuncture once available. I am interested in weight loss medication to possibly help get me off meds I have been taking for years. Soonest is better. I will be taking physical therapy in Fayetteville or Lillington since Medicare pays for it.

Dr Bailey-Dorton is very personable, knowledgeable and focused on my needs, with sincere understanding. She offers integrated approach and covered my post chemo support needs comprehensively. She gave me a total plan, specific for me . I drive over an hour to see her because my oncology clinic doesn't offer an integrated support program

Excellent! Never feel like I ask a dumb question. Questions answered quickly & to the point but never rushed. Always walk out like I can kick this cancer to the curb and have a new way to combat some of the side effects of treatment.

Yes, Dr. Bailey Dorton was very thorough and knowledgeable about how to live healthfully and positively with natural ways and not always so many chemicals and things. And she was a great energetic personality, uplifting and supportive and just a wonderful addition to the center. So thank you so much for the opportunity to go there and be cared for her. Have a great day.

Dr. Bailey-Dorton is an asset to the cancer center. She uses her medical expertise and her holistic approach to help cancer survivors to be the healthiest they can be. Her nurse was amazing as well. I was hesitant to go to this appointment because I wasn't sure if it would be beneficial for me but I quickly realized it was just what I needed. Truly, anyone, not just cancer survivors can benefit from Dr. Bailey-Dorton.
