Alexis Elliott, LCSW, CDE
Alexis has transformed her passion for health education and her background as a licensed clinical social worker and certified diabetes educator into a position as the behavioral health coach with the FirstHealth Bariatric Center. A magna cum laude graduate of Coastal Carolina University with a B.S. degree in health promotion, she earned a master’s degree in social work from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She began her career with FirstHealth as a health education specialist, where her role involved educating community members about chronic disease self-management, physical activity, nutrition and smoking cessation. In her current position with the FirstHealth Bariatric Center, she counsels patients with diabetes and other chronic illnesses about their behavioral health and disease-management concerns, providing coaching for the enhanced self-management to address the behavioral and psychosocial influences on weight loss and long-term management. She also serves as project leader for the development and implementation of the program’s non-surgical weight-loss component.
