Center for Provider Wellbeing

The health care landscape is constantly changing, thanks in part to a complex and demanding work environment for providers. Burnout rates are higher than ever before, but FirstHealth is committed to providing resources to those who care for us. Established in 2016, the FirstHealth Center for Provider Wellbeing is an innovative and comprehensive benefit for our physicians, nurses, other medical providers and their families. HD Maynard, an executive coach and consultant based in Southern Pines, addresses members of FirstHealth’s inaugural Physician Leadership Program class, which meets at the Clara McLean House.

Where will tomorrow’s physician leaders come from?  Will they have the skills and knowledge to sustain the highest quality health care for patients from throughout the region and beyond?  Can they keep FirstHealth of the Carolinas competitive, financially secure and ready to meet health care needs through the decades ahead?

The Physician Leadership Academy was created to answer these questions.  The Clara McLean House provides a home for the program.  Participating physicians meet for training in the Shadowlawn Event Room, where they complete classes on topics such as communicating, leading change, building and managing teams, financial management and managing for results.

Nursing Enrichment

The quality of our nursing staff is a hallmark of FirstHealth of the Carolinas, but shortfalls in the numbers of nurses are forecast across the United States.  The Foundation has made nursing enrichment a priority initiative for the continued recruitment and retention of a high quality nursing staff.

Clara’s House hosts professional development training, nursing recognition events and other nursing enrichment activities throughout the year.  To learn more, click here, or call The Foundation of FirstHealth at (910) 695-7500.
