Clara McLean House

Kindness with a front porch
Having a loved one in the hospital is hard enough. For those far from home or with limited finances, it’s even harder. The Clara McLean House gives out-of-town patients and their families a place to call home during this stressful time … and a resource for information, support and advocacy. We call our approach kindness with a front porch.
Kindness to renew your spirit
At Clara’s House, we support the healing process in a caring environment where guests feel fully at home. Here, they can get away, relax, prepare and eat meals and get a good night’s sleep. So when their loved one needs them, they will be rested and ready to help.
But Clara’s House offers far more than hospitality. Our guests find good books and valuable information in the library. They enjoy the warmth and comfort of our homey kitchen. And when guests need time alone, they can find solace in the Healing Garden, Reflection Room or Quiet Room. Volunteers and staff are always ready to lend a compassionate ear, and offer encouragement and understanding.
Something else happens at Clara’s House, something wonderful. In this remarkable setting, many guests meet and talk with other guests. They begin sharing experiences and stories. Connecting with families and patients facing situations similar to their own, they draw strength from each other.
Kindness that helps patients recover
Studies show that patients in calm, comfortable surroundings have less stress and make better recoveries. Knowing their families are taken care of also lowers stress. That’s one reason Clara’s House can be an important part of healing. Whether guests stay for a few hours, a few days or a few weeks, they find understanding, support and help to prepare for the return home.
Kindness for our community
Clara’s House is a community resource for health information and referrals. Support groups meet here. Spiritual support is available. We host public events on health topics. And we empower physicians and nurses as they care for patients in today's health care environment.
In so many ways, Clara’s House is the front porch to patient services, support and advocacy for the Sandhills and beyond.
