Two Urogynecologist Specialists Expand Women's Pelvic Health Services in Moore, Cumberland Counties

Headshots of George Stone and Shannon SmithPINEHURST—FirstHealth of the Carolinas and Southern Pines Women’s Health Center are pleased to welcome two new urogynecology specialists who will expand access to pelvic health services for women in Moore and Cumberland counties beginning this summer.

George Stone, M.D., and Shannon Smith, WHNP-BC, will join Walter Fasolak, D.O., and begin seeing patients at FirstHealth Urogynecology with Southern Pines Women’s Health Center at 145 Applecross Road in Southern Pines starting July 21, 2025, with services expanding to 2053 Valleygate Drive, Suite 201, in Fayetteville later this summer.

“We are proud to welcome Dr. Stone and Ms. Smith to our growing women’s health team,” said Dr. Fasolak, of FirstHealth Urogynecology and Southern Pines Women’s Health Center.

“Urogynecology is a vital specialty that improves quality of life for women facing pelvic floor disorders, and this expansion will allow more patients to receive expert care close to home.”

Stone is a fellowship-trained urogynecologist with board certifications in both obstetrics and gynecology and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, he completed both his residency and fellowship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He previously served as the Chief of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and Gynecologic Chief at Womack Army Medical Center, where he earned numerous honors for excellence in clinical care and resident education.

Smith is a certified women’s health nurse practitioner with more than a decade of clinical and leadership experience in women’s health.

She earned her master’s degree from Duke University and has served as Chief Advanced Practice Provider for the Women’s Division at Atrium Health. Smith brings a strong focus on patient-centered care and surgical coordination. She has also served on Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief teams around the world.

Together, they will offer comprehensive care for conditions such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and other pelvic floor disorders, using both non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment approaches.
