PINEHURST, N.C. — For patients in the Sandhills facing complex cancer diagnoses, expert care is close to home.
Matthew Strode, D.O., a dual board certified surgeon with fellowship training in surgical oncology, cares for patients throughout the region with FirstHealth General Surgery, Pinehurst Surgical Clinic and as a key member of the FirstHealth Cancer Care team.
Dr. Strode performs highly specialized surgical procedures for cancers of the pancreas, stomach, liver, colon, breast and more.
“I loved the complexity of surgical oncology—the clinical decision-making and the ability to tailor treatment approaches for each individual patient,” said Dr. Strode.
“We offer many of the same advanced and minimally invasive procedures found at large university hospitals, but with the convenience and compassion of care closer to home.”
Dr. Strode is a graduate of the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency training at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center. He then completed a highly competitive fellowship in surgical oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, one of the nation’s leading cancer centers. He is board certified in both general surgery and complex general surgical oncology.
As part of the multidisciplinary FirstHealth Cancer Care team, Dr. Strode collaborates with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists and other specialists to develop personalized treatment plans.
“No two patients are exactly alike,” he said. “We work together to determine the best plan of action for each person.”
“Traveling for cancer care can be burdensome and costly,” Dr. Strode added. “Being able to stay close to your support system and providers makes a real difference for both patients and their families.”
Matthew Strode, D.O., sees patients in Pinehurst, Raeford and Fayetteville. From complex cancer surgery to general procedures such as laparoscopic hernia repair and gallbladder removal, Dr. Strode provides compassionate care across a wide spectrum of surgical needs.
