The eyes of the golf world will turn to the Sandhills this week as the 2024 U.S. Open returns to Pinehurst No. 2. FirstHealth is proud to serve as the official medical services provider for the open, and we are committed to keeping golfers and the thousands of fans who will visit our area safe.
Nearly 100 FirstHealth providers and nurses will volunteer their time during the tournament to work in medical tents scattered around the famed course, working with other local and state officials.
FirstHealth will also offer expanded service options to help keep our community healthy during the festivities. Here are a few things to keep in mind during Open week.
Traffic Impacts
Road closures will impact traffic in and around the course as fans make their way to the tournament each day, but there could be slow-downs in other parts of Pinehurst and Aberdeen throughout the week. Any patients coming to appointments near the Moore Regional Hospital campus in Pinehurst should build in extra time for travel.
To learn more about specific road closures, visit the Village of Pinehurst's website.
Know Where to Go
If you are visiting the area or a long-time resident, it's important to know where to go for medical care should the need arise. FirstHealth offers many options, including emergency care at Moore Regional Hospital.
Anyone experiencing chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden weakness or speech changes or severe fractures should call 911 or head to Moore Regional Hospital's emergency department.
FirstHealth also offers Convenient Care clinics to handle urgent but non-life-threatening illnesses - think minor sprains, cold or flu-like symptoms, rashes or cuts that need stitches.
FirstHealth On the Go is a virtual service that allows users to see providers through their phone, tablet or computer. Providers can treat things like colds, allergies, rashes or even pink eye. During the U.S. Open, we are offering discounted visits with the code "USOpen."
Convenient Care - Extended Hours
FirstHealth operates nine Convenient Care clinics across the region, including three in Moore County. Our Pinehurst location (150 Ivey Lane) will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the week of the U.S. Open (June 9-16), and our other Convenient Care clinics will be open 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. No appointments are required to visit a Convenient Care clinic.
Attending the U.S. Open? Be prepared with sunscreen, plenty of water
Temperatures will likely be in the upper 80s to low 90s during U.S. Open week. We recommend hats, cool clothing and plenty of sunscreen, along with comfortable shoes as you walk around Pinehurst No. 2.
FirstHealth's medical tents will be available to anyone needing assistance on the course, and there will be several hydration stations on the course. Fans may bring an empty reusable water bottle (32 oz. or less, no glass) onto the grounds.
Visit the U.S. Open's website for more information on the fan experience.
