FirstHealth Primary Care-Raeford Welcomes New Nurse Practitioner with a Passion for Patient Care

RAEFORD – FirstHealth is thrilled to welcome Keisha Yancey, FNP-C,  to FirstHealth Primary Care-Raeford.  She joins the team of James Mergy, M.D., Diana Riddley, M.D., Jamie Dickerhoff, FNP-C, and Amanda Wendenberg, FNP at the clinic located on the MRH-Hoke campus at 6322 Fayetteville Road in Raeford. Keisha Yancey

Yancey is a dedicated provider with a remarkable journey into health care and a deep commitment to serving our community.

From a young age, Yancey knew that her calling was in health care. With eight years of experience as a registered nurse, she decided to further her education to make an even broader contribution to providing care for diverse populations. Her personal mission extends to increasing the representation of African-American providers in health care.

“Research indicates improved outcomes for patients with providers who share their cultural background,” she explained further.

Yancey earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a degree in Military Science from Georgia Southern University.  She earned a Master of Science in Nursing and Nurse Practitioner from Frontier Nursing University.

A former active-duty member of the U.S. Army, Yancey served for almost nine years.  It was during that time she developed a strong passion for primary care, particularly in the fields of women's health and pediatrics.

“Half of my time while active duty was spent in women’s health, so women’s health and children have a special place in my heart,” she said.

However, she is equally excited about the opportunity to provide comprehensive care to individuals of all ages within the primary care setting.

What drew Yancey to FirstHealth was her firsthand experience during her clinical rotations within the organization’s clinics. She found the atmosphere at FirstHealth to be truly unique, where everyone works collaboratively and treats each other with respect, regardless of their roles and titles.

“It felt like a family, and the camaraderie deeply resonated with me,” she said.

Yancey’s dad served in the military, so her family moved around every three to four years.  She considers Georgia her home since she lived there throughout high school and her undergraduate studies.  She has been in North Carolina since August 2022 due to her husband's military assignment to Fort Liberty.

Her upbringing and personal journey have been intertwined with the military, and she brings a wealth of experiences from her time as an active-duty Army member and travel to multiple states and countries, including assignments throughout Europe and Africa.

Yancey is not only passionate about her career in health care but also about her family. She has been happily married for ten years and is the proud mother of two daughters, ages 5 and nearly 3. Her parents and two sisters provide unwavering support, and she is delighted to have her younger sister living just ten minutes away, allowing her daughters to grow up with their cousin.

In her free time, Yancey loves traveling and cherishing moments with her family. They enjoy outdoor adventures in area parks and playing together in the yard, and family games like Phase Ten are a highlight.
