SANFORD, N.C. -- FirstHealth of the Carolinas has welcomed a new physician to its family medicine care team in Lee County.
Phillip Deal, D.O., has joined Addison Zhang, M.D. and Jennifer Roehrs, D.O., at FirstHealth Primary Care – Sanford at the Lee Campus off U.S. 1. Deal said he’s excited to care for patients in Sanford and the surrounding communities.
“The most rewarding part about being a primary care physician is having the privilege of taking care of the whole family, from birth all the way to the end of life,” Deal said.
Deal completed a Family Medicine Residency in 2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree in 2017 from Campbell University.
Deal said he decided to pursue a career in medicine after growing up with an interest in science.
“I was always interested in science from a very young age, and I loved conducting experiments in elementary and middle school,” he said.
“I developed an interest in biology and human anatomy in high school and college and was naturally drawn to medicine as a way to use my interest in and knowledge of science to help and serve others.”
Outside of work, Deal said he enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife and daughter. He said their entire family also enjoys visiting Disney World.
