What is Ambulatory Care?

“Ambulatory” refers to health care services that do not require an overnight hospital stay.

This includes care provided in settings such as:

• Primary care clinics
• Convenient care clinics
• Specialty care (e.g., cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, The FirstHealth Cancer Center)
• Pain management clinics
• Outpatient behavioral health
• Home Care and Hospice

In short, ambulatory care is the care patients receive when they come in for an appointment and go home the same day.
