Welcome to FirstHealth of the Carolinas. 

FirstHealth of the Carolinas has been a trusted neighbor to residents of this region for many years.  Our core purpose, to care for people, is illustrated by our commitment to continually expand services to meet the needs of our patients and the community, to provide state-of-the art technology, and to offer exemplary quality in health care and customer service.

With health care programs and services that reach a 15-county region including Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Richmond, Robeson and Scotland counties, FirstHealth is one of the most comprehensive health systems in the mid-Carolinas.

David J. Kilarski

David J. Kilarski


David J. Kilarski has served as Chief Executive Officer of FirstHealth of the Carolinas since October 2011. Prior to joining FirstHealth, Mr. Kilarski was President and Chief Executive Officer of Marymount Hospital and Marymount Health Care Systems in Garfield Heights, Ohio from 2003 to 2011 and the President of South Pointe Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio from 2006 to 2011. Both Marymount and South Pointe are Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals.

As CEO, Mr. Kilarski is responsible for directing the development and operation of the corporation in all activities in coordination with the policies adopted by the Board of Directors. Mr. Kilarski develops and coordinates the Corporation’s goals, objectives and strategic plans, and ensures that the core purpose of the Corporation, to care for people, is fulfilled.

Mr. Kilarski attained a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois, and a Master of Science degree from Ohio State University. He is a fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and is board certified in health care management. He began his career as a pharmacist, serving as Director of Pharmacy at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois and St. Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. It was in Amarillo, Texas that Mr. Kilarski broadened his career to become Vice President of Professional and Support Services, and Chief Operating Officer of the 300-bed hospital. When St. Anthony’s merged with High Plains Baptist Hospital in 1996, Mr. Kilarski was appointed Executive Vice President of the new health system.

Mr. Kilarski serves on the Moore County Partners in Progress Board of Directors, the North Carolina Health Care Association Board of Trustees and is involved in several other local community initiatives and activities.

John F. Krahnert Jr., M.D.


John F. Krahnert Jr., M.D., has served as chief medical officer (CMO) and senior vice president (SVP) since January 2012. Dr. Krahnert earned his B.A. from Wake Forest University and his M.D. from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem. He completed both his cardiovascular surgery internship and residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and is board certified in thoracic surgery. Dr. Krahnert joined the Moore Regional Hospital medical staff in 1990 and was the founder of its cardiac surgery program. He has held various leadership positions on the Moore Regional Hospital medical staff. Prior to his role as chief medical officer, Dr. Krahnert served as senior medical director and chief medical officer at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital - Richmond. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Certified Physician Executive.

Lynn S. DeJaco


Lynn S. DeJaco, chief financial officer, earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Accounting Concentration, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Public Administration, Healthcare Concentration, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Prior to joining FirstHealth of the Carolinas, she held positions at Northeast Medical Center, where she performed consulting, tax, network development and audit services. DeJaco also has 10 years of combined tax, audit and consulting service experience in public accounting, including seven years with Coopers & Lybrand and three years with McGladry and Pullen. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, American Health Lawyers Association, North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She has held numerous civic and board advisory positions and is a frequent speaker at professional and civic meetings.

Brian T. Canfield


Brian T. Canfield has served as chief operating officer (COO) for FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital since September 2012. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Bemidji State University and holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Western New England University, a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Baylor University, and a Master’s in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.

Prior to joining FirstHealth, he served in the United States Army, retiring as a colonel after more than 28 years of active service in a variety of command and staff leadership positions in the Continental United States and overseas. His most recent position was as chief executive officer (CEO)/commanding officer for Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, from July 2010 to July 2012. Canfield is an Associate of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
