TRU – Tobacco. Reality. Unfiltered – is a movement started by young people to stomp out teen tobacco use. TRU is about taking a stand and making a difference.

Currently FirstHealth sponsors the TRU program through support of school TATU (Teens Against Tobacco Use) groups. TATU recruits teenagers to teach younger children about the hazards of tobacco.

For more information on TATU groups in the Mid-Carolinas please call toll-free at (877) 342-2255.

Breaking News!

FirstHealth of the Carolinas was awarded funding from the N.C. Health and Wellness Trust Fund (HWTF) to develop a regional community college task force to coordinate tobacco use prevention awareness activities, promote cessation services and conduct grassroots policy advocacy for tobacco-free campus environments. Using campus-based partnerships to empower faculty, staff and students, FirstHealth will target 18 to 24 year-old students attending Montgomery Community College, Richmond Community College and Sandhills Community College in Hoke, Richmond, Moore, Montgomery and Scotland counties.

Nearly 28 percent of all 18 to 24 year-olds in North Carolina smoke. Nationwide this is the only age group where smoking rates are increasing. Tobacco-Free College Advocates hope to create change on college campuses, build support, raise awareness, advocate for 100 percent tobacco-free policies as well as promote the N.C. Tobacco Quitline (800-QUIT-NOW).

For more information or to become involved, contact Community Health Services toll-free at (877) 342-2255.
