Volunteers are needed in the following areas at FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care
FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care needs volunteers in a variety of positions. Interested volunteers should be committed, caring and be trusted to respect patient confidentiality.
Patient Family Volunteers:
- Provide companionship for lonely patients
- Provide emotional support for patients, their caregivers and their families
- Sit with patients for a few hours to allow a caregiver the opportunity to take a break and rest or run errands
- Transport patients to and from appointments
- Transport patients to run errands or shop for necessities like groceries
- Run errands/shop for patients/caregivers
- Deliver supplies or medications
Special Project Volunteers:
- Shop for events or bereavement support group refreshments
- Sew Memory Bears for families in bereavement
Office Volunteers:
- Provide general administrative support for services that sustain patient/family services (Prepare patient packets and bulk mail, file, copy)
- Run office errands
- Data entry
Hospice offers flexible, comprehensive training and work schedules for all volunteer positions. Volunteers are asked to be available for support three to four hours weekly (typically on one day of the week) following completion of training. Additionally, Hospice seeks to expand support services offered through Volunteer Services and encourages all candidates to contact the Volunteer Services Coordinator at (910) 715-6000 to discuss the above opportunities or any special talents or skills they may wish to share through volunteerism.
Volunteers are needed in the following areas at Richmond Memorial Hospital
Information Desk/Greeter
Information Desk volunteers are the first face many people see when visiting the hospital. They assist visitors with directions and patient room numbers, as well as directing patients for outpatient services including lab work, imagining and wound care services. Weekend shifts are available.
Emergency Department Transporter/Liaison
Transportation or guide volunteers are needed to assist in transporting patients to and from test areas and in keeping family members up to date on patient condition. Weekday and weekend shifts available.
Filer
Filing volunteers are needed for FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital as well as for FirstHealth Home Health, whose offices are located across the street from the hospital. Weekday shifts available.
