Board certified anesthesiologists and certified nurse anesthetists administer the proper anesthesia for each surgical procedure at FirstHealth. During and after surgery, they closely monitor each patient’s medical condition.
Prior to surgery, anesthesiologists evaluate the patient’s overall health, specific medical problems and medications to determine the most appropriate type of anesthesia. They also meet with patients to explain the anesthesia and to answer any questions.
During surgery, members of the anesthesia team constantly evaluate the effects of the surgery and the anesthesia on the patient and make necessary adjustments to safeguard the patient’s health. They continue to monitor patients in the recovery room following surgery and can administer medications to relieve pain and discomfort.
