For adults experiencing severe symptoms of mental illness, the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital provides a safe, structured environment, as well as the resources needed to help stabilize their emotional health.
Following a thorough evaluation, the team of mental health professionals develops an individual course of therapy for each patient. Intensive inpatient programs are designed to treat schizophrenia, dementia, chronic mental illness, and major emotional problems such as prolonged depression, anxiety and crisis situations. The treatment team teaches patients the skills they need to cope effectively with their problems and with the challenges of life.
The multidisciplinary treatment team includes physicians, psychiatric nurses, activity therapists and social workers to provide the following services:
- Individual therapy
- Group therapy: didactic, creative/expressive, cognitive and task oriented
- Psycho-educational groups
- Family support services
- Comprehensive discharge planning
- Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is an established psychiatric treatment for severely debilitating mental disorders and has been a treatment option for FirstHealth Behavioral Services patients for more than 20 years. Performed by psychiatrists who are certified in this treatment model, ECT is used when traditional psychotherapy and medications prove ineffective.
