“The Mask”
A terra-cotta bust behind a bronze hand holding a mask recognizes the contributions of the late Ruth Lyman Watkins. A longtime member of the FirstHealth Hospice Foundation Board, Watkins was a major supporter of patient advocacy, especially in the area of cancer. Whispering Pines resident Doris Catullo sculpted the piece, titled “The Mask,” that is displayed in Moore Regional’s main lobby. An accompanying Anne Shotwell poem illustrates the significance of the piece

“Connections”
It took artist David Hewson six months to create the three wood panels, each 6 feet by 4 feet, and the free-flying butterflies of “Connections,” which is located in the hallway connecting Moore Regional’s main lobby with the Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center. Each panel of the piece honoring the late Bruce and Helen Miller of Pinehurst is filled with symbols of regeneration and transformation, connected by strands of DNA and the Ring of Eternity.

“Dance of Life”
The Foundation of FirstHealth commissioned Charlotte artist Stephen Smith to create “Dance of Life,” a bronze bas-relief that hangs in the Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center at Moore Regional Hospital. The piece recognizes the contributions of Pinehurst residents Sandy and Nelda Storms to the “In Love and Service” Capital Campaign that raised funds for Moore Regional’s Patient Tower and Cancer Center.

The first, called “Sandhills,” documents the DeWitt family’s involvement in agriculture and family businesses related to peaches and trucking. The second, “Racing,” traces the family’s interest in stock car racing, while the third, “Dedication,” pays tribute to the family’s matriarch, the late Carrie DeWitt.

Employee Appreciation Wall
Designed by LDDK Pottery of Seagrove, the tiled Employee Appreciation Wall in Moore Regional’s Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center recognizes the contributions of employees of the FirstHealth of the Carolinas to the “In Love and Service” Capital Campaign.

Outpatient Center Mobile
The mobile hanging in the entrance of Moore Regional’s Outpatient Center represents the contributions of the Moore Regional Hospital Auxiliary to the “In Love and Service” Capital Campaign. The mobile, which features moving discs, was designed to provide a source of distraction and pleasure for patients, families and hospital employees.
