To everyone, including the medical staff to housekeeping and dietitians, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital: I will always remember your kindnesses to me and my ever-present crowd of family. Thanks for letting us drag furniture hither and yon to accommodate Mama’s loved ones and for educating me along the way.

I will be eternally grateful for the late-night conversations with each of you and the support we received. Housekeeping, my relatives still say it’s the cleanest place they’ve ever seen.

I was recently a patient in Moore Regional Hospital. I was a patient of Dr. John Moore, who performed a hip revision. I wanted to tell the staff how well I was treated. I have never experienced the genuine care and concern I received from everyone: nurses, aides, maintenance, everyone. I thank you very much and pray that this caring will continue and always be a part of Moore Regional Hospital.

Every member of the self-named “Rockingham Quitters,” a group of City of Rockingham employees, stopped smoking after completing FirstHealth’s FirstQuit quit-tobacco program. Shown are (seated) Charles Collins; (first row from left) Johnsye Lunsford, Patricia “Cindy” Probasco, Ricky Hamilton and Eddie Webb; and (second row from left) Gwen Swinney, Brandon Williams, and Rocky Clewis.

I am writing to thank you for FirstQuit. Several of our employees recently completed the course, and they enjoyed it immensely. This is a wonderful program.

(Health Educator) Lynn Antil should be commended for a job well done. She kept the employees motivated and encouraged them to reach their goal. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her.

I enclose a picture of the “Rockingham Quitters” that was taken at their last FirstQuit session. “Rockingham Quitters” is the name that the members of the group gave themselves, because for once it was OK to quit—quit smoking, that is.

I am writing to say “thank you” for making the services of bariatric dietitian Julie Walenta available to those of us who are struggling to lose weight and keep healthy in the years after gastric bypass surgery. In one short hour with Julie, I was able to get better information and to get back on track. She was knowledgeable and perceptive and got right to the heart of my problems. She is a wonderful, essential addition to Dr. Kenneth Mitchell’s bariatric surgery staff.

Dr. Mitchell is superlative as a surgeon for bariatric patients. He “gets it” and cares about our long-range health and success. Those of us who are over one year out from surgery still have needs in monitoring our health concerns and our eating habits. The entire team makes a big difference to our continued success by providing quality, ongoing support.

I came across this letter, unopened, in my parents’ papers. I was born in your hospital on April 11, 1935, and I am sorry to have missed the reunion. Please let me know if you ever have another, but hurry, as you can see by my birth date I probably won’t have many more opportunities.

I hereby donate your letter back to you.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy. This program saved us considerable time by our not having to travel to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

We are indebted to Dr. Patrick J. Simpson, cardiologist, for referring us to Pulmonary Rehabilitation. We are grateful to and appreciative of your staff members Pam Meacham and Melissa Furr. We could not have wanted or expected any better than was provided for us. Even though I was the patient, my wife was treated equally as well.

We hope that the people of Montgomery County will avail themselves of and participate in this fine program.

Recently, Dr. Stan Vetter referred me to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital as an outpatient. From the minute I arrived until I left, I was impressed with the staff in Outpatient Surgery. You have every reason to be proud of this hospital. I honestly felt, with the attention I received, that I was the only patient there, although many others were there. I have shared my praises with friends, because I am proud of our hospital.

To the Richmond Cardiac Rehab staff: Thanks for the great job that you do. It was a pleasure to have met you and go through your course. You have mastered the balance between “pushing” and “encouraging” everyone to do their best. I know I feel a lot better about my health and about myself. I will encourage anyone with heart problems to go through your course.

I recently had my fifth hospital stay at Moore Regional Hospital in the past year. You might expect that experience to be depressing. However, members of your well-trained staff with their caring and cheerful approach made those visits very pleasant.

I particularly want to thank the many volunteers for their friendly contributions to my care. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful facility.
