Babies who are breastfed during the first year of life are generally healthier and less likely to suffer from common childhood infections. Natural proteins in mother’s milk help build the baby’s immune system, and mother’s milk contains the right combination of vitamins and minerals the baby needs for healthy growth and development. Breastfeeding also promotes bonding between mother and child.

Breastfeeding isn’t always easy, though, especially at first. Some new mothers need a little help.

Certified lactation consultants who can educate and encourage new mothers, answer their questions and help solve breastfeeding difficulties staff the Breastfeeding Resource Center at Moore Regional Hospital. The lactation consultants also are available by appointment to provide breastfeeding information and advice to pregnant women.
