The FirstHealth Cancer Support Services Program is available to help patients and their families with various emotional and social issues related to cancer and cancer treatment. The Cancer Support Services Program provides counseling, offers support, assists with crisis intervention, promotes advocacy and manages bereavement. The program can also inform you about other resources that might be available to you as a cancer patient or as a family member of a patient.
You may like to meet with a clinical social worker in our Cancer Support Services Program if you have any of the following issues:
- Depression, sadness, distress or other emotional issues
- Feelings of irritability or anxiety
- Feelings of hopelessness or withdrawal
- Interest in talking about options for treatment
- Interest in information about alternatives to pain medication
- Recovery from substance abuse
- Feelings of being overwhelmed
- Lack of a support system
- Concerns about age-appropriate communications with young children about cancer
- Concerns about a child’s coping abilities during the cancer process
- Interest in learning more about or completing advanced directives
