Facing cancer can be a daunting prospect. The disease challenges patients emotionally, physically and financially. No one understands the ups and downs more than someone who has been already there — a survivor. Patients at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital’s Cancer Center, or anyone dealing with cancer, has access to just that. CARE-Net, a unique volunteer program pairing patients with survivors reaches out to provide a helping hand when patients and families need it most.
CARE-Net volunteers connect patients and their families with resources in the community. They offer a shoulder to lean on and serve as a liaison between patients and the medical staff to explain questions that may arise. In a time of crisis, a single CARE-Net volunteer may spend as many as 50 hours with a patient or family.

CARE-Net was created in 2001 to serve cancer patients and their families. It was an outgrowth of the Cancer CARE Fund of the Moore Regional Hospital Foundation, which continues to provide financial support. Today, the program is open to patients with any chronic disease or special need, and it is part of FirstHealth Hospitality Services. |
