The Outpatient Cancer Center brings together in one location the cancer physicians of Pinehurst Medical Clinic and Moore Regional Hospital’s chemotherapy and infusion services.
Chemotherapy is the treatment of cancer by drugs that act either by destroying tumor cells or by stopping them from multiplying. It is delivered via intravenous (IV) infusion. Infusion services also include the delivery of other kinds of drugs or blood products to patients with various types of cancers or blood disorders.
With the physicians’ offices next door to where patients are receiving therapy, physicians and nurses can consult more often and work together even more closely to develop and carry out the best treatment plan for each patient. Doctors are always nearby as patients receive therapy, which is provided Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
With a low nurse-to-patient ratio, patients in the Outpatient Cancer Center receive close monitoring and highly personalized care throughout their therapy session.
A nurse practitioner provides comprehensive chemotherapy education, and the nursing staff reinforces this teaching according to each patient’s needs.
A master’s-prepared social worker, a designated oncology case manager and dietitians are also available to give patients information and advice, or to help with special needs.
Working together in the new Outpatient Cancer Center, the cancer physicians of Pinehurst Medical Clinic and the chemotherapy/infusion staff of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital are able to provide the latest and most advanced oncology and hematology treatment services in the region.
