The Cancer Registry collects, manages and analyzes data on all patients who are diagnosed and treated for cancer at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, according to standards set by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. This data is collected through the patient's physician and is confidentially reported to the North Carolina Cancer Registry as required by law.
A Cancer Registry is very important for the prevention, control and improvement of cancer patient care. Lifetime follow-up is maintained on each patient, and the information collected benefits cancer patients by providing statistical data to physicians and other health care professionals for education and research. The accurate and timely collection of cancer patient data allows for the evaluation of patient outcomes and identification of opportunities for improvement.
