Do you know the symptoms of a stroke?

  • Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
  • Sudden, severe headache with no known cause
  • Every 45 seconds, someone in America has a stroke. Every three minutes, someone dies of one. But chances of recovery are much greater for those who recognize the signs of stroke and seek immediate medical attention.

Recovering from a stroke is a lengthy process. Fortunately, patients at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital have access to a nationally accredited inpatient Center for Rehabilitation that meets the highest accreditation standard possible. They also have access to conveniently located outpatient rehabilitation facilities throughout the service area.

Generous gifts in the past helped support the original construction of our 25-bed Inpatient Rehab Unit. And just recently, the Neuroscience Department received a $25,000 grant from the Moore Regional Hospital Foundation to support continuing education for nurses and therapists. The grant helps with the ongoing challenge of recruiting and retaining qualified staff for the department. The ultimate beneficiaries of the funding are patients with neurological deficits who will receive enhanced expert care.

Building and sustaining excellence in health care requires significant resources. As medical expenses escalate and technology demands more and more funding, we turn to you for support. Through partnership and charitable giving, we can serve the diverse health care needs of our patients today and help ensure the good health of future generations.
