The Chest Center of the Carolinas

In medicine, today’s knowledge is just a stepping stone to tomorrow’s solution. Each advance moves us closer to better treatments and possible cures.

For patients navigating the system, however, the options may seem like a maze of specialists, tests and treatments. Sometimes, even in a world of modern miracles, a seemingly simple answer achieves great results.

The FirstHealth Specialty Centers Building brings together all of the components necessary to diagnose, treat and follow up with patients who are experiencing specific conditions.

The Chest Center of the Carolinas, the first of FirstHealth’s specialty centers, opened in 2004. The Chest Center coordinates the expertise of multiple specialists including thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists and pathologists in the treatment of diseases of the chest, especially lung cancer. Being seen by the specialists in the Chest Center enables patients to be diagnosed and begin their recommended treatment promptly.

In March 2007, the Chest Center relocated to a newly re-designed location in the Specialty Centers Building. The Specialty Centers Building, which formerly housed Pinehurst Surgical Clinic, offers easier access, more convenient parking and room for growth. In addition, the clinic has more exam space and a dedicated respiratory care room.
