At FirstHealth of the Carolinas, the three hospital auxiliaries are self-governing, community membership organizations. They assist their respective hospital by promoting the health and welfare of the community, by raising funds on behalf of the institutions and by performing public relations within the community.
While members of the Auxiliaries volunteer their time, leadership and support to the organization, they are separate from the volunteer programs at the hospitals. A hospital volunteer is not required to join the Auxiliary. Neither are the Auxiliary members required to contribute time through the volunteer program.
At Moore Regional, the Auxiliary holds the annual Hospital Ball, a fund-raiser that helped to purchase the FirstHealth Mobile Health Van and to finance the expansion and renovation of the FirstHealth Child Development Center, a child-care program for the children of FirstHealth employees. The Auxiliary also manages the Gift Shop at Moore Regional Hospital, and its members assist with the Baby Bucks program, which promotes prenatal exams for expectant mothers.
The Auxiliary at Montgomery Memorial Hospital raises funds through special events such as book fairs and bake sales. Those funds have been used provide college scholarships, co-sponsor the annual Teddy Bear Fair and to buy items and extras that enhance the comfort level of patients, families and staff. In addition, the Auxiliary holds special functions throughout the year for FirstHealth employees.
At Richmond Memorial Hospital, Auxiliary members provide hand-made crafts for pediatric patients decorate the hospital lobby at Christmas and fill hospital needs with requested items.
