During your stay at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, physicians who are members of our Hospitalist Services team may care for you.
A Hospitalist is a medical doctor specializing in the care of hospital patients. The FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospitalists work only in the hospital and do not have an office practice. They are a dynamic team of specialists in internal medicine who will medically manage every aspect of your treatment in the hospital by:
- Monitoring your condition
- Coordinating all specialists and tests and
- Keeping you, your personal physician and your family informed about your condition—any time, day or night
Because Hospitalists specialize in inpatient care, your primary care doctor can spend more time in the office, which allows him or her to devote more time to keeping you and your family healthy. Once you are discharged from the hospital, your primary care physician will see you. Hospitalist care is beneficial for patients because:
- High-quality care is available all day, every day
- The patient sees a doctor as often as needed
- You and your family can easily access your physician to communicate with him or her about your illness
While you are in the hospital your Hospitalist will communicate regularly with your primary care physician, as well as with others who provide care. This communication can occur at various times during your hospital stay, including when you are admitted and discharged. This is very similar to the way your regular primary care physician communicates with other specialists when you are referred for another opinion or for additional tests and treatment.
Having a Hospitalist care for you is like having your doctor just down the hall from your room throughout your stay at Moore Regional. Our Hospitalists know every specialist and department in the hospital, ensuring timely follow-up on tests and treatments. The result is high-quality care for you.
When you are discharged from the hospital, the Hospitalist who admitted you will send detailed records to your primary care physician describing your hospitalization and further treatment needs or follow-ups. The Hospitalist also will provide you with any needed prescriptions when you leave the hospital and arrange for you to see your primary care doctor. Should you have questions or concerns before your follow-up appointment with your primary care doctor, the Hospitalist will be available to address them.
