The most recent capital projects funded include the new Reid Heart Center, the FirstHealth Hospice House, the Rehab Village at the hospital’s Center for Inpatient Rehabilitation, the NICU and the Clara McClean House at FirstHealth. These larger projects are funded primarily through the Annual Holiday Ball. Proceeds from the 2011 Holiday Ball supported the FirstHealth Dental Care Center program, which gives comprehensive dental care to low-income children and serves approximately 1,000 children per month in the three centers throughout the region. The Auxiliary has raised more than $1.7 million for these initiatives since 2005.
More specialized projects include helping to launch and grow the successful FirstSchool Gardens serving more than 4,00 Moore County students, providing funding for the Kids in Crisis emergency medical intervention program for Moore County School children, funding the emergency room clothing closet and supplying blood pressure and glucose monitors for the Mobile Health Unit that serves low-income, non-ambulatory individuals. These and other special projects are funded through the Hospital Gift Shop and sales from the vending machines throughout the hospital. The Auxiliary has disbursed more than $300,000 in funds for these specialized projects in just the last five years
