PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Information Sheet
Purpose: To train pharmacy residents in a community hospital setting to become confident independent practitioners prepared to excel as a generalist clinician. In addition to our graduates possessing the knowledge and skill set to be valuable members of a multi-disciplinary patient care team, they will acquire a thorough understanding and appreciation for all aspects of the medication use process in a health-system setting.
Requirements
- Completion of application materials
- Graduate of an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy
- Eligibility for licensure to practice pharmacy in the State of North Carolina
Salary/Benefits
- Approximately $45,000 salary
- Benefits package equivalent to full-time employee with FirstHealth of the Carolinas
- Travel allowances for professional meetings
- ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting (December)
- Southeastern Regional Residency Conference (April)
- North Carolina Association of Pharmacists Annual Convention (October)
Service/Staffing
- Staff in a clinical, decentralized position every other weekend
- Work one of two summer holidays (Memorial Day or Labor Day)
- Work one of two winter holidays (Thanksgiving or Christmas)
- Work a minimum of five night shifts (in addition to routine staffing requirements)
Residency Rotations
Required: General inpatient medicine (two months), Critical care (two months), Emergency Medicine (two months), Pharmacy Practice Management (longitudinal)
Electives: Oncology, Infectious Disease, Pharmacy Administration, Pharmacy Information Systems, Ambulatory Care (MTM in outpatient retail pharmacy)
Longitudinal: PN&T Committee, Medication Safety, Administration/Leadership
